Hi folks

Running usual bog standard linux, xorg , gimp 2.2.6 etc.

Is there anyway I can use a foriegn font [ unicode ] in Gimp or other
image editor. I tried yudit but failed to make it use Telugu font
named Pothana2000.ttf.

I used it in the past and I am sure if I dig around long enough yudit
will work.

But I really need to make an image with these unicode fonts as I want
to use it as a texture in blender.

Gimp can see the font but when I try to type text on image with this
font it just comes in english.

My question is , is it possible to use unicode input and font in gimp!

Thanks a lot

Sree

PS and OT : Just installed crux and actually using it to post this
message. Pretty quick and ports system looks good.

Gimp uses Pango (and hence FontConfig and FreeType) for text layout
and rendering, so it should render pretty much anything. You might
want to check you are using a UTF-8 locale, and are entering
UTF-8-encoded text, though.

Yes. I just checked with Latin, Cyrillic and Hangul characters
(pasted from a GNOME terminal), and they all rendered just fine. I
suggest checking your fontconfig setup if it's not working. Also
check you can enter or at least view/copy/paste UTF-8 glyphs in a
terminal window to/from a GtkEntry field in any GTK+ application.

Roger

Thanks Roger

Perhaps my locale is wrong. I will try to change it and see. I don't
want to change locale for all apps or the system. Where do I change the
locale for gimp and fontconfig using apps only.

By the way I converted the said font to type1 using ttf2pt1 and used
that to render text in blender directly. For now the problem is solved.

Thanks a lot
