I'm using Evolution 2.2.3 on Mandriva 2006 on an Athalon 1Ghz. I can't
seem to expunge the Trash Can of 200 messages.

I have 4377 e-mails in my inbox, which are distributed over 22 virtual
folders. These are from various yahoo groups contents.

THe error message says
" Error while Expunging Folder.

Error storing '~/.evolution/mail/local/inbox (mbox)':Summary and folder
mismatch, evem after a synch".

There does seem to be anything wrong with permisions. Is this a limit of
evolution storage? How else can I expunge. Could I delete the Trash at the
command line, or while that mess up the xml indexes?

THanks

Josef

Thanks for the suggestion. I still get the above error message when I do
Ctrl + e.

Is there anything I can do safely to the file from the command line?

My first move is to chown and chmod the directory
(/home/yourname/desktop/trash in this case) to be absolutely sure
permissions are as stated. Just in case.

I don't know how it compares, but I had 140 MB of mail in my copy of
Evolution 1.4 which I archived and then successfully deleted from the
mailboxes. In case it suggests something to you, here's how I exported
the stuff:

- created a new, empty folder to receive the archival material
- for each folder containing stuff to be archived:
- Highlight all the stuff that I wanted to archive
- drag & drop it into the archival folder
- delete it from the folder
- outside Evolution I copied the mbox file from the archival
folder's directory
- back in evolution I deleted the archive folder
- emptied the trash

It wasn't fast, especially the final trash deletion, but it worked.

You could also try stopping Evolution, renaming the duff index so
Evolution thinks its gone, and restarting. I *think* it will rebuild the
missing index.

There's annoying little information about recovery or the bulk
operations everybody needs to do about once a year.
